Tira Poeira is a musical group which took form in the neighborhood of Lapa, in Rio de Janeiro. Lapa is Rio's musical redoubt of old, reborn over the last decade or so after a steep decline, again home to a myriad of clubs wherein the music is samba, and/or choro.
Tira Poeira plays choro, and samba. But they are young guys who do what the great founding traditionalists did when they were themselves young and creating the tradition...they play it their way.
The group is Henry Lantino on mandolin, Caio Márcio on guitar, Fábio Nin on 7-stringed guitar (a Brazilian guitar), Samuel de Oliveira on saxophone, and Sérgio Krakowski on pandeiro (Brazilian tambourine, which goes light-years beyond what most non-Brazilians think of when they think of simple tambourine backbeat banging).
