Simon Hudson’s musical life began when he was given a guitar by a friend for teaching him a song. But it was receiving a pair of drums that changed his life, starting a journey of percussion that included study with African and Brazilian masters and recording with folk-pop trio The Stiff Gins. He has composed and performed for countless theatre and dance performances including at the Woodford Folk Festival and the Sydney Olympics. He was a member of world music choir Voices From The Vacant Lot, touring with them across Australia and appearing on their ARIA-nominated album. His vocal training has also included study with flamenco masters in Sydney and performances at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
After a comprehensive grounding in world rhythms Simon longed to incorporate them into his own music. After completing a Bachelor of Music (songwriting) at NMIT in Melbourne in 2012, he formed Simon Hudson Band to fuse his folk origins with the rhythms of Latin America and Africa. With influences including The Cat Empire, Jose Gonzalez, Neil Finn, and Paul Simon, they are now bringing their unique brand of lyrical percussion-driven songwriting to audiences around Australia and across the world. After a sell-out launch, their debut EP is receiving national radio airplay. The band is currently touring throughout Victoria and South Australia and will release a full album this year.
