Billboard / Current News:
It was a nice evening. Tom McDermott played three solo tunes, two rags and a choro he wrote. Then he brought up Tadeu and Nancy. They did three songs together all old Brazilian stuff. It was very nice and Tom seemed to really connect with Nancy musically.
After their set, he got back on the piano while people were hanging out and they worked on a few things. Their set was very cool. I liked the Radiola stuff and a couple of the more obscure songs they did. The 10 string viola Tadeu played sounded really cool.
There were several Brazilian oriented musicians in the crowd and we all hung around afterwards chatting for a while. Scott, who started the the band Chegadao with Marcio, and Tadeu were really talking music. They were playing pandeiros by the bar and talking different rhythms. Plus he speaks decent Portuguese. I tried to get them to go with me to the Maple Leaf to hear this crazy jazz-funk-rock band called Yojimbo (yes after the Japanese film!), but they didn't show. Scott was talking about taking them to Frenchmen Street were there are many bars with live music. There was a Fela tribute show down there.
All in all a good night, not too crowded, but that is expected on an early Wednesday. They are both nice people….
