Antonio Adolfo is a Brazilian pianist, composer, producer, arranger, writer and educator, student of Eumir Deodato and Nadia Boulanger. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, in the neighborhood of Santa Teresa, he's been working professionally since 17 years of age, playing with Samba a Cinco in Beco das Garrafas and putting together the musical group Trio 3-D to provide music for Pobre Menina Rica (Poor Little Rich Girl), a musical by Vinícius de Moraes and Carlos Lyra.
He's toured with Milton Nascimento and Elis Regina, written, arranged for and accompanied Maysa, and his songs have been recorded by Sérgio Mendes, Stevie Wonder, Herb Alpert, Earl Klugh, and Dionne Warwick, among others.
In 1985 he founded the Centro Musical Antonio Adolfo, a music school, and he continues to work in all his customary areas of music.
He's has released a number of albums under his name or the name of groups he's led, both with major labels and with his own label Artezanal, and he's performed on many other recordings.
His latest work (CD) is Chora Baião, focusing on and fusing two diverse Brazilian musical styles with common roots in Africa, featuring compositions by two towering icons of current Brazilian music, Guinga and Chico Buarque, along with three of his own tunes, two never before recorded, all performed by some of the best players in Brazil.
