Brooklyn native Lori Bell is an award winning flutist, pianist and composer of admirable depth and broad musical sympathies. A resident of San Diego, she has contributed to the development of higher standards of performance while earning acclaim from both peers and critics for her artistry on stage and in recordings.
In December of 2011 Lori received a Global Music Award, the Award of Excellence for her depth of playing, composing and arranging for the "Lori Bell" CD (Beezwax Records). In April 2014 Lori won a second Global Music Award, the Gold Medal Award for her composition "Une Chanson Pour Claude" featured on the CD "Night Soliloquy" (Azica Records), a collection of 20th century repertoire for flute and piano.
Over the past two decades, the Grammy Award selection panel has recognized Lori's excellence with selections in several categories-among them Best Instrumental Arrangement, Best Composition, and Best Instrumental Solo.
Lori has performed with several exemplary ensembles at SOKA Performing Arts Center, Wadsworth Theater UCLA, The Kennedy Center, and most recently, on a project of jazz arrangements and classical compositions for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Library.
Lori has performed and recorded with such musicians as jazz pianists Tamir Hendelman, Mike Garson, Dave Mackay - bassists Bob Magnusson, Andy Simpkins - vocalists Nnenna Freelon, Tierney Sutton - guitarists Peter Sprague, Ron Satterfield - and most recently was a featured guest with the Modern Art Orchestra from Budapest lead by renowned trumpet/flugalhorn virtuoso Kornel Fekete-Kovacs.
In 1989 Ms. Bell headlined at the Gala for the National Flute Convention in San Diego and again in 2003 for the NFA held in Las Vegas.
She is also devoted to chamber music: the breadth of classical repertoire for flute and piano and is principal flute with the Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra.
Lori has recorded albums for Discovery Records, Websters Last Word, Beezwax Records, Resonance Records and Azica Records/Naxos.
Lori is currently Instructor of Flute in jazz faculty at San Diego State University.
